Shopping online for baby bedding brings a vast selection. This can be great when you know what you want and you're just trying to find it. But if you haven't already got a clear picture of what you're looking for, shopping online can actually confuse you even more. Looking for animals? Find anything you can think of, from caterpillar baby crib bedding to gorillas. Angels are another popular theme, both for shoppers and designers. There are hundreds of different bedding sets to choose from. If you're looking for a really popular theme like cartoon characters or nursery rhymes, you may be doomed LOL.
Whether it's baby boy bedding or baby girl, when you see all the super-cute options you have, you may be tempted to overspend or break your budget. To be a bit blunt, that designer bedding set you paid $1000 for is going to go through the same spitup and diaper leaks as a $200 set. So now you might be wondering what you baby actually does need. Here are some of the things:
- Bumper pads have become somewhat controversial, as there is some evidence that they may do more harm than good. It is all too easy for an active infant to pull a bumper loose and get it over his or her face. If this happens at night, a parent may not even realize until the next morning. If you decide to put crib bumpers in, be sure that they are properly secured and that any ties are on the outside of the railings. But the far better option is to just remove the pads completely, at least until the end of year one.
- The term "crib sheet" refers only to the fitted sheet, because flat sheets are unnecessary (and potentially dangerous) for newborns. Not all crib sheets fit all mattresses, and the wrong sized sheet can pop off the mattress and cause safety risks. Diaper leaks are inevitable so consider a mattress protector and avoid white sheets!
- Loose blankets are a safety hazard for babies under one, so stick to sleep sacks or warm pajamas instead. Stuffed animals and pillows are dangerous so take them out of the crib.
When choosing crib bedding, get something safe. With the number of choices available, you'll be able to find a bedding set that's both safe and cute.
